Yamen Youth Hostel
November 4th, 2008 | Posted by in 08-ChinaWe feel we have found a real gem with Yamen Youth Hostel which warrants an individual post. A former Ming residence – the governor’s to be be precise – with a beautiful outdoor courtyard, a large comfortable lounge and rustic dorms. Our second night here and we are enjoying it immensely.
The smog of Xi’an and change in temperature from the south has given us both pretty bad colds, confining us to our beds for most of today. Having nice residence in which to laze about will no doubt aid the healing process. It rather difficult to write posts when your brain feels like jelly!
Energy levels permitting, tomorrow we plan on visiting Pingyao’s many temples, so expect more from here soon.

Yes, I actually listened to the whole thing. Being a child of the Sky+ generation it is amazing when I don’t fast forward through things :)
If Sam’s not doing as much laundry she’ll have to do some posting – maybe the next verbal update can be a joint one. I’m sure all her family would enjoy hearing her voice as I’m sure yours enjoyed hearing you.
My sister Jenny has occasionally popped her head in here to spy on you and we agree that whilst many of the places you have visited are amazing we really aren’t envious of “well it might be fleas, we’ve had those a few times…” and stories of the like. Give me the Hilton any day :)
Today is an off day college-wise and I have lots of things I must get done. And on that revelation I may go back to bed. I don’t manage my sleep very well and always seem to be at my most mentally energetic around 11pm. Last night I was researching sound-based camera triggers at 1 am. No wonder I am a little foggy this morning.
Keep in touch and remember to keep hunting for the future Mrs Tim…people keep telling me she’s out there but I can’t find her round here. I’m guessing she must either be very shy or live overseas :P
