A Finished Bathroom
May 13th, 2007 | Posted by in Pre-Travel PostsWe have finally finished the bathroom. We had finished the painting several weeks ago, but purchasing and fitting all the ancillary items like the mixer taps, sink taps, toilet seat, shelf, towel rail, toilet holder, mirror, shaver light etc. took time to locate and hang.
When we purchased the house, the survey highlighted rising dampness in the bathroom and spare bedroom, pretty common in these old properties. As you will see by the photo, the existing plaster was removed and then injected with special solution and then had to be left for a year to ensure it was fully dry. We left it two, just to be sure.
Bar the plastering, we did all the work ourselves, plumbing, tiling, grouting, painting etc. Would you believe, the hardest part was putting the silicone sealant around the bath edge? It was frigg’n nightmare. I sought advice from many a builder down in the local, but each had a different method, so I just went ahead and done it…and after several attempts, it turned out alright, phew!
We are happy with the outcome, so we thought we would share it with you. Now it’s on to the living room, dining room, kitchen, main bedroom and then the outside….here’s to a great summer. Anybody fancy giving us a hand, food and booze provided…

i read a DIY book before “tips n tricks” and in was putting silicone round a bath, sink etc. They suggested putting a tiny amount of washing up liquid on your finger, it helps to put a smoother finish, apparently!
